CDC Active People, Health Nation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has launched an initiative to encourage physical activity. The “Active People, Healthy Nation” initiative is a toolkit for state and local governments and a public information campaign to inform people about the benefits of an active lifestyle. The initiative includes, among other things, information on creating activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations through such state and local efforts as:

  • Complete Streets policies,
  • zoning policies,
  • local government master plans, and
  • Safe Routes to Schools.

The CDC will monitor the nation’s physical activity levels through the National Health Interview Survey and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The initiative is based on the Department of Health and Human Services’ Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. For more information, link to the Active People, Healthy Nation website.
